Colin Montgomerie wins 2nd Seniors Major in 7 weeks

THE Scots star holed a 13-foot par putt on the final play-off hole to win the event in Edmond, Oklahoma – seven weeks after breaking his Major duck in the Senior PGA.

COLIN MONTGOMERIE claimed his second senior Major title of the season in after a dramatic finale on Sunday night.

The Scots star holed a 13-foot par putt on the final play-off hole to win the US Senior Open in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Monty, who broke his Major duck in the Senior PGA seven weeks ago, held his nerve to edge out American Gene Sauers by one shot over three extra holes.

After seeing off overnight leader Sauers he said: “It’s my third USGA play-off – both lost to Ernie Els – so that’s third-time lucky. I’m delighted with the victory and it’s so tough to win on this Tour – it’s just a hair’s breadth below the US Tour.”

Sauers threw away a four-shot lead as he fired 73 for five-under 279. Monty drew level with a 69 as the duo finished four clear of South African David Frost and American Woody Austin.
